Professional basketball returns to New Jersey despite NBA lockout

The Jersey Express is set to play its first home game of the 2011-12 season on Saturday, November 19 at 7 p.m. at the Jersey City Armory, as the Express takes on its Northeast Division rival, Staten Island Vipers.

“There is no NBA as of yet, but the ABA is here and will be around,” said Express spokesman Jeff Brown Sr. “We’ll continue to be here for the fans, providing the community with exciting basketball, a fan-friendly atmosphere, and quality entertainment at an affordable rate. Join us on Saturday night to see New Jersey’s only professional basketball team.”

The Express return home in hope of bouncing back from an opening-night loss to Connecticut, 122-104.

Team announces the re-launch of website for home opener

The Jersey Express opened up its 2011-12 ABA campaign on Saturday, November 12 with a loss to the Connecticut TopBallerz, 104-122. Darnell Braswell led the way for the Express, as he poured in 37 points in the defeat, in front of sold-out gym.

“It was a disappointing loss, but it was a learning experience for the guys, understanding how physical the game is,” said head coach Joseph Amador.

The Express will be looking to avenge the loss this Saturday, November 19, when it takes the floor at the Jersey City Armory in Jersey City, N.J., for the first time, taking on the Staten Island Vipers at 7 p.m.
