Jersey Express Take On The Connecticut Top Ballerz Friday 12/30/11

Add Jersey City Legend Ray Ortiz to Coaching Staff


On Friday, December 30th, the Jersey Express will host the Connecticut Top Ballerz in a Battle of division leaders, in a Pre New Years Eve contest, at the Jersey City Armory at 7:30 pm, located at 678 Montgomery Street. 

 

Ray Ortiz, who is a former star player from St Mary’s High School, and current assistant coach in Jersey City, has been added to the Express Coaching Staff, for the remainder of the season. 

 

“I would like to take this opportunity to embrace the great opportunity to assist the Jersey Express Professional Basketball Team.  It is with great interest that I will have the opportunity to provide my basketball expertise, which I have a great passion for.  I have roots in Jersey City, and I hope to solicit and engage great fan support from the community of Jersey City.  I am sincerely thankful for this opportunity; stated Ortiz.

 

This will be the 1st visit to Jersey City for the Top Ballerz, with the teams holding a 1-1 series record.  The Express are coming off back-to-back wins over NYC, and Staten Island.

 

We’ll feature a halftime game with two youth teams from Jersey City, coordinated by Mr. Franklin Walker, Interim Superintendent of Jersey City Public Schools.  The Express are offering FREE admission to ALL Jersey City Public School Students, accompanied by an adult with paid admission, for the entire season.

 

The Express are featuring six players averaging double figures in points per game, and offer one of the most exciting offenses in the ABA, as they average 115.0 points per contest.  Individual game tickets are only $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

BACK TO BACK WINS HELP CELEBRATION

 

Monday, December 19, 2011 – The Express had a big weekend, centered on giving back to the community!  On Friday, they held a Toy Drive for the National Guard, and Saturday’s game was dedicated to Jersey City’s Sports Legends. The Express beat the NYC Thunder (128-92) on Friday and the Staten Island Vipers (104-90) on Saturday.

 

‘I’d like to thank all the Honorees in attendance for their hard work, and influence in the field of sports and education in Jersey City.  With commitments from the honorees to help share the community goals of the Express, we feel our involvement and partnership with the City will continue to increase.  I look forward to working with Mr. Franklin Walker, Interim Superintendent of Jersey City Public Schools, who was one of the honorees.  This was the first, and surely not the last celebration of Jersey City’s Legends; stated team owner Marsha Blount.



Here’s a list of honorees:  Franklin Walker, James Adams, Tom Favia, Courtney Wicks, Bill Hampton, Jerry Walker, Ray Ortiz, Keith Davis, Fred Garlin, Charles ‘Mandy’ Johnson, Larry Ross, and Leon Bailey.

 

We would like to invite ALL of Jersey City’s Public School System out to our upcoming game on Friday, December 30th.  With the kids being on Holiday break, until after the 1st, we offer families a night of exciting, fun-filled, family entertainment…right in their own back yard; sated Jeff Brown, Sr. Director of Operations for the Express. 

 

Head Coach Joe Amador discussed his feelings on the back-to-back victories. “I am very proud and pleased the way the team played this weekend.  Everyone played a part, continuing to build on our chemistry and commitment to winning.  We’re 6-3, and would like to finish off 2011 with a big win over Connecticut”.

Jersey Express Doing Big Things in The Community

Back-to-Back Weekend Events for the National Guard & Jersey City Sports Legends


On Friday, December 16th, the Jersey Express will host the New York City Thunder in the ABA’s Battle of the Hudson, at the Jersey City Armory at 7:30 pm, located at 678 Montgomery Street.  They’re asking you to bring out an unwrapped toy, for the families of the National Guard.

On Saturday, December 17th, they’ll take on the Staten Island Vipers, as they honor Jersey City Sports Legends @ 7pm.  Included, are James Adams, Frank Walker, Jerry Walker, Tom Favia, Courtney Wicks, Ray Ortiz, Charles ‘Mandy’ Johnson, Keith Davis, Fred Garlin, Larry Ross, Bill Hampton & Leon Bailey.

Jeff Brown, Director of Operations stated; I think that at these times, that as a people, we owe it to ourselves to help those who help us by protecting our country.  They’re away from their families, and we want to help with gifts for Christmas, because the gift that the troops give us; is freedom!   Join us Friday to help support them

We’re extremely proud to be a part of the Jersey City Community, and are excited to continue our goal of being a part of the community in which we play!  We’re asking for your support, to show that Jersey City is active in supporting our troops, and our Legends.  Cablevision will be filming on Saturday night, along, with Sports Battle’s Broadcast, so come out and enjoy our back-to-back games, and see some exciting, fun-filled, family oriented entertainment, for less that the price of a movie ticket; stated team owner Marsha Blount.

Jersey Express Move Into First Place With Stellar Weekend

Go for five straight as the Staten Island Vipers come to Jersey City

The Jersey Express had a strong weekend, as the team won two games to extend its win streak to four in a row and take control of first place in the ABA’s Northeast Division.

 

The Express (4-1) took down the NYC Thunder at home on Friday night, 105-101, and traveled to Connecticut to defeat the Connecticut TopBallerz, 124-120 on Saturday.

 

Darnell Braswell led the way against the Thunder, as the guard poured in 31 points. Sedale Walton scored 21.

 

On Saturday, forward Dexter Gray had a strong outing, scoring 31 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. Walton had 24 points and Darren Travis added 23.

 

Head Coach Joe Amador was happy with the team’s play over the weekend.

 

“I’m very proud and impressed with the collective team effort this past weekend,” said Amador. “Someone different steps up every night for us. We are really coming together as a team.”

 

On Saturday, December 10, the Express host the Staten Island Vipers at the Jersey City Armory at 7:00p.m and look to extend its winning streak to five games. The Armory is located at 678 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, NJ. Check out the team’s newly-renovated website @ www.jerseyexpress.net, for tickets to upcoming Express games.  Recording artist A SWAZE will be performing live at halftime, as they welcome Barnabas Healthcare Systems.
